Drying salmon

Geraldine Jim, a Warm Springs Tribal member, is drying fish in her fish drying shack.  Geraldine has been drying fish since she can remember (over 70 years) and dries anywhere from 50 to 100 spring chinook a year in the traditional way that she was taught by her mother Gladys Polk Walsey and her grandmother, Allie Polk.  She gets the fish from friends and family that exercise their treaty rights fishing in the Columbia River.  She uses the fish for cooking, eating, tribal ceremonies and gives some away to friends and family.
